Requirement

  • Eligibility
  • Applicants with a bachelor or master degree from an accredited institution are eligible to apply for the Ph.D. program.

  • English Requirements
  • Applicants whose first or native language is not English are required to submit the effective scores from the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL), the International English Language Testing System (IELTS), Test pf English for International Communication (TOEIC) or the General English Proficiency Test (GEPT). All above test scores must be taken within the past two years. The test of English proficiency can be waived for applicants who have recently completed two or more years of study in an English-speaking country or have graduated from a university where English is the primary language (official certification should be provided).

    The minimal scores for the TOFEL, IELTS and GEPT are summarized as follows:

  • Two Letters of Recommendation
  • Two letters of recommendation are required. Referrer can provide the letter though the online system when applicants provide the detailed information or send the letter to program office directly.

  • Academic Transcripts
  • Official transcripts of courses, including grades and grading scales, must be sent directly by the registrar of the institutions or submitted with the application in sealed envelopes. An explanation for any non-standard grading system is strongly recommended.

  • Statement of Purposes and Study Plan
  • The statement of purpose should comprise a brief statement of the scientific interests and career goals, together with a description of past accomplishments that are not evident from other documents submitted. If applicable, the result of any research in progress may be specified.

  • Other Evidence of Scholarly Achievements
  • Please provide your mater thesis, research publications, and description of research experiences to be evaluated by the INS admission committee.

  • Optional: The Graduate Record Examination (GRE)
  • All applicants are strongly recommended to take the GRE General Test. However, if you have difficulty in taking the exam on time, please contact us and provide us with supplementary information (e.g., mater thesis, research publications, and description of research experiences) that can demonstrate your potential in research. Your qualifications will be reviewed by the admission committee.
